Prototype of "The Case of Frank Hall," the first natural-language, spoken dialogue with a virtual character is demonstrated by William G. Harless, Ph.D. as the keynote presentation for the Association for the Development of Computerized Instructional Systems (ADCIS) in Philadelphia, PA.

1986

	"The Case of Frank Hall" wins 1985 Best Educational Achievement Award from the Nebraska Videodisc Design/Production Group, University of Nebraska
	IDI is incorporated on March 12th
	First U.S. patent application is submitted: "Audiovisual System for Simulation of an Interaction Between Persons Through Output of Stored Dramatic Scenes in Response to User Vocal Input"

1990

"The Case of Lucille Brandon" wins 1990 Silver Medal Award at the International Film & TV Festival of New York

1991

U.S. Patent No. 5,006,987 "Audiovisual System for Simulation of an Interaction Between Persons Through Output of Stored Dramatic Scenes in Response to User Vocal Input" is awarded to IDI President/CEO William G. Harless, Ph.D.

1993

	Prototype of Virtual Conversations® language model is developed
	MS-DOS® version of Conversim™ is ported to Windows® environment
	Dragon Systems® speaker-independent voice recognition software integrated; replaces Votan® speaker-dependent recognition system

1994

	In-house production begins; VideoCube non-linear editing facility in place
	Indeo™ digital video codec is established as IDI standard

1995

	CD-ROM replaces videodisc as product distribution media
	Second U.S. patent application is submitted: "Audiovisual Simulation System and Method with Dynamic Intelligent Prompts"
	IDI moves to expanded offices and current location: 7900 Wisconsin Avenue, Suite 200, Bethesda, MD
	Virtual Conversations® applications are launched across IDI's local area network (LAN)

1996

Virtual Conversations® language applications are developed

1997

U.S. Patent No. 5,730,603 "Audiovisual Simulation System and Method with Dynamic Intelligent Prompts" is awarded to IDI President/CEO William G. Harless, Ph.D.

1998

Virtual Conversations® applications are launched across a wide area network (WAN) at DARPA 40th Anniversary Celebration, simulating NG Internet delivery
